The second night was calm as the elite teams began the crossing through the Toachi Canyon.

Team Ecuador maintained their lead which at this point of the race is approximately 5 hours. Team Lafuma Vibram entered after them as did team # 10 Papacara – Salud S.A. who stuck with team Ecuador during the entire trek. Team # 10 re-engaged at this point from CP 13 and were full of energy. The door to this leg of the race closed at 23:00 and teams 12 - Generali and 4 - Raid74 did not make it on time.

These teams had to re-engage this morning at the end of the trek. Due to the distance between CPs the teams that began the trek were there most if not all night with Team Ecuador and team Papacara – Salud S.A. arriving to CP 17 (transition zone from trekking to Mountain-biking) at 3:07 AM.

Teams 1 and 10 decided to stop in CP 17 to rest for a couple of hours and with team Ecuador continuing towards CP 18 at around 05:00 AM while Papacara – Salud S.A. stayed until after sunrise. Team Lafuma Vibram dropped back in this stage because one of the team members had some problems with one of his ankles and had not emerged from the canyon in the morning.

Team # 6, Tecnu, finished the night second in the elite category having made good time in this stage. The teams descended steadily in this trek, working their way from 2666 metres above sea level to 1640 metres above sea level. This leg of the race required good orientation from the teams as they dealt with rain, fog and cold weather.
