Mud and Sweat Mountain Bike Adventure Race - Mud Series 2
Mud and Sweat on Dartmoor
Mud and Sweat / 16.02.2013

The weather forecast looked wet, and so it was! One participant even stated after finishing, that we should consider renaming the event – Mud and Wet!
Round 2 of the Winter Series took place on the southeastern tip of Dartmoor. The riding was on a network of bridleways that criss-crossed the area, connecting lanes and tracks as well as giving access to the open moor up around the Avon Dam and Shipley Bridge area.
The event centre was at South Brent Village Hall which was perfectly located for easy access off the A38 and allowed riding straight out into the countryside.
Those of the 100 riders that got off early, headed off into the damp and misty weather. The short course riders returning some 2 hours later and the long courses after 3 1/2 hours. Those that started later in the day did enjoy some sunshine and clear skies but with it the wind speed had increased and the temperature dropped.
No one could have us up for not delivering what we say on the tin, there was plenty of mud! And with the efforts that the riders put in, I suspect it produced a little sweat?!
Riders returned with great spirits taking on the conditions and sharing all their mini adventures with other riders back at the hall. A good ‘fugg’ and atmosphere was created in the hall as people chatted, whilst munching a well earned burger and a slice of chocolate cake, washed down with a steaming mug of hot tea.
A few mentions to class winners…
Well done to Katie, Evan and Walter who won the family class. Team Centurian, consisting of Martin Walbank and Martin Pollard scored a whopping 600 points to win the Pairs Long. They got right out into the very north of the map collecting some big points scoring controls. A long uphill ride out though!
Matt Jepson and Janet Borroughs continue to support our events as well as winning the Short Score Pairs. Solo Long honours goes to Chris Porter with 530 points. Andrew Harvey, another regular, equaled the sore but was just over 3 minutes behind Chris. Solo Short goes to Neil Carey with 220 points, good job.
Our new Team class is growing in popularity with 8 teams of 4 riders in both classes. The Clay Billies won the Long Score with 415 points and 10 minutes to spare. The Short class was won by Team Dellers Dirtbox, good job guys.
A big thank you to Big Peaks as always for prizes, South Brent Village Hall (in particular George who looked after us whilst we were there) and of course to everyone who came to the event without which there would be no event.
The next event is in the Quantocks on the 14th April 2013. The map and controls have already been put together and the area has been reccyed. It offers some great riding with some fantastic views. The event centre is at Nether Stowey Village Hall which is easily accessible from the M5. For our regular local followers don’t be put off by the thought of the drive, it will be worth it!

Also watch out for our new events coming this Autumn. The Moor Enduro, the inaugural Mud Runner and a Duathlon as well as our regular MTB Nav Events.
