Day 2 completed. Another very hot day. We started with approx 50 mins paddling. Our teamwork went fine and at the transition we were in the lead together with the strong paddling teams from Australia, Team Moxie Gear and Team Peak.
During the following 90 min bike leg we took the lead thanks to a good teamwork uphill. But a few kilometres before the transition Mimi took a pretty bad fall in a muddy section. After the stage she was taken to hospital to get her arm stitched up. We went out for the following 3 hour running section 15 seconds behind Team FJS (Swe). The last hour we managed to mobilize all our strengths and won today’s stage 8.5 minutes ahead of FJS and 11 minutes before Team Moxie Gear.
In total we are in the lead 17 minutes before Team FJS and 24 minutes ahead of Team Moxie Gear.
The last day seems somewhat easier. It will start with a bike stage, then there is an amazingly beautiful trail running stage, followed by a stunning kayak stage through large caves and steep rapids.
Some comments from day 2:
“This must have been the most spectacular trail running I have ever done.” Scott Cole in Team FJS.
“The race arrangements here in China are the best organised in the world.” Myriam “Mimi” Guillot, Thule Adventure Team
“To be a rice farmer in China and walk in mud up to your knees all day long must be one of the hardest jobs in the world, but a day like this it might be even harder to be an athlete." Martin Flinta, Thule Adventure Team
