Marysville to Melbourne
Marysville to Melbourne Multisport challenge
Press Release / 28.04.2013

James Pretto and Elizabeth Dorman paddled to victory on the 155km course from the mountain township of Marysville into Melbourne’s Yarra’s Edge at the Docklands in one of the most challenging point-to-point endurance races in Australia.
With a course designed by the same two men who map out the Swisse Mark Webber Challenge in Tasmania (John Jacoby and Sam Maffett of Rapid Ascent), the Marysville to Melbourne saw over 700 participants (individuals and relay teams), pushed to their physical limits in the sports of trail running, road cycling and flat water river kayaking.
James Pretto and Elizabeth Dorman were two of 70 heroic solo participants who took on the six legs of the course which included a 19km trail run, 50km and 41km road rides, 14km trail run, 15km and 16km river paddles, both finishing in a powerful times.
James confirmed his dominance of the course with remarkable form in a time of 7:53:15. James knew from last year that he needed to smash the first run leg and did so claiming it to be a “sufferfest”, he went into the race with a plan, and this plan certainly paid off! Second across the line was Alexander Polizzi in a time of 8:08:32 and third in was Alex Houghton in 8:16:28.
In the female division, we saw for a third year in a row, a tussle up front between renowned triathlete sisters Elizabeth and Bernadette Dornman. In 2013 it was Elizabeth’s time for glory in a time of 8:59:32, with Berndatte coming in at 9:18:44, only 2 minutes behind Berndatte, was Rachel Howden with a time of 9:20:46.
150 teams of between two and six members also went head-on into the epic journey together in a relay format with team Vigor Blokes slaughtering the course and all behind them for a domineering first over the line win in 7:32
