Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest
First Timers, Teams & Adventure Racers Ready For Augusta
News Release (Rapid Ascent) / 09.10.2013

A capacity field of 3,300 competitors will head to Augusta, Western Australia, next month to take on the 2013 Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest (previously sponsored by Anaconda), on 2-3 November, 2013.
Known as the biggest adventure race in the world, the weekend consists of three different race formats taking in Augusta’s stunning ocean and hinterland wilderness.
· Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Race: the premier race for experienced adventure racers over a 63km course; including ocean swimming, kayaking, mountain biking and trail running.
· Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Mini Adventure Race: a half distance race for younger competitors and first timers, designed to provide a taste of adventure.
· Act-Belong-Commit Junior Survivor: A 4km running and obstacle course for kids aged 4 to 13 through the bush and beach environment of Augusta.
Amongst the field are a range of athletic abilities from elite individuals through to first timers and relay teams just out for a fun and challenging weekend away.
Michael and Shannon Cain first participated in 2010 as a team of two, and became engaged on course (during the event!) in 2011. In 2012 they were married two weeks prior to the event, and will be back again for a fourth time this year celebrating their first wedding anniversary.
“It has been a great event to compete in together, and being there to support each other is one of the main perks of the race.” Said Shannon Cain. “It was my first adventure race in 2010 and we had only been together 6 months; now 4 years on we are married and have done loads of events either together or both competing individually.”
Andrew Elliott of Willagee has competed in every Augusta Adventure Fest since it’s inauguration in 2009, as either a pair of an individual. This year, Andrew is back in the game for the individual category.
David Rigby of Busselton first competed in triathlon at the X-Adventure Dunsborough earlier this year. Hooked from the get go, David is now challenging himself to his first ever adventure race.
“I put a challenge to myself after X-Adventure to do the Augusta Adventure Fest; to train consistently and complete it solo at a steady pace.” Said Rigby.
“I holiday in Augusta frequently and feel that racing in such a pristine environment could not be a better experience!” Continued Rigby
The event will also see some interesting rivalries, in particular four fathers going up against four sons.
From Cottesloe, Richard Ledger, Mark Anderson, Richard Simpson, Deryck Ethelston (the dad’s) will race in a team of four against son’s Evan Ledger, Joe Anderson, James Simpson, Ryder Ethelson all of whom are 16 or 17 years old.
“The boys go to school at Scotch College and have been doing the Duke of Edinburg Award together.” Said Richard Ledger. “The idea of training for the Augusta event fitted in with the Duke of Edinburg Award, and for the dads, it was a chance to do something with our sons and their mates before they grow up, finish school and go their own ways.”
“We did this last year for our first go, loved it and decided to go again. The teams race is a good incentive for us dads, and the idea of a weekend away down south as a group of 8 was really attractive as well.” Added Ledger.
The Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest is proudly sponsored by Healthway to promote Act-Belong-Commit, a community-based health campaign encouraging people to take action to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
For the health and comfort of all participants and spectators, the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest is a smoke free event.
