Raid Gauloises
What do Nokia know?
By Pino/Raid Gauloises / 27.04.2002

Team Nokia, winners of the prestigious 2000 edition in the Himalayas, are among the favourites to lift the Raid Gauloises trophy. We spoke to their captain Petri Forsman.
Other than the 1000km that lies ahead during the next 10 days, does your team feel any added pressure due to your win in Nepal? No, we are confident in our abilities and that of our support crew but only the racecourse will show if we are really capable and ready.
How do athletes from northern Europe train for 100% humidity and 40 degree temperatures? You excelled in Nepal but the environment was more suited to your past experience. We have been able to acclimatise to such extreme conditions by racing in South America recently and by arriving a week early here in Hanoi. Our support crew have shaven their heads in readiness for the amount of sweat they will produce, maybe more from stress than from the midday sun! Anyway, Nepal was not as cold as we expected; in fact, it was very hot!
Nokia has a wealth of Adventure Racing Experience, however they are athletes of few words and even fewer expressions. It is obvious that they do all their talking with their feet, so watch the Flying Finns. They are hungry for another trophy to add to their collection.
