Day 2 on Adventure Race Slovenia

Andreja Hazabent / 22.06.2014See All Event Posts Follow Event

During the Friday night all the teams came to the first transition area, where they could get their personal equipment, food or whatever they put in boxes. Just under the Peca mountain they were given the second set of maps, which first took them to the top of 2126 m high Mount Peca.

The night trekking proved yet again to be one of the first biggest challenges, since the teams had no real stops before this. However, the morning mist dissipated by sunrise bringing new energy and motivation so they could continue with a smile. After a long, steep trek the teams got on bikes towards the Logar Valley, where they experienced probably one of the most beautiful treks during the entire race. Teams entered the fascinating Logar Valley, where they first needed to hit skikes and afterwards climb a few mountains that surround this glacial valley.

Spirits were high, the sun keeping everyone warm and the stunning views of the magnificent mountains gave one last kick to get a new map again and decided which checkpoints to pick on the next trek. This was about 36 km long and it had 3000m of altitude difference. A daring challenge indeed.

Finish for Rovers

...after 2 days or 30 hours of non-stop racing, the Rovers have been able to put their gear down. Everyone is happy to have made it and finished the entire race. The team that did it the best is the Slovenian team JT with 86.5 points, the second is another Slovenian team Pustolovec RAJD Vodni Park Bohinj with 72.5 points and the third SIGURVEGARAR (a Slovenian team with an Icelandic name). Congratulations.

Explorers Towards the Finish

The Explorers continued on bikes and especially the foreign teams were learning how hilly and steep Slovenia can be. Nevertheless rumours were being heard that everyone was enjoying the beautiful landscape.

After two days of racing the second night can be a bigger challenge. The teams have spent it on bikes and when the sun was up they started paddling on Žovnek lake. They also had a swimming section in it, and even though the temperatures outside are not really favourable, the water is quite warm and it was not too challenging to jump into.

After the water disciplines, teams headed towards a cave called Jama Pekel and now they are cycling to the finish. There is one last checkpoint which is obligatory before they can cross the finish line at Velenje lake.

The finish line has just opened but we expect the majority of the teams to be back just before noon.
