Expedition Alaska
Always Expect the Unexpected, Even Before the Race Starts!

Expedition Alaska is coming up next week and it’s looking to be a real adventure. Our team, the North Zealand Outdoor Sports Club from Denmark, thought about our expectations for the race whilst packrafting training in Sweden last week.
Judging from the updates sent by the race directors its seems to be full on adventure racing and we are looking very much forward to it. It seems clear that the race director is bending over backwards to create a true expedition style adventure race with some epic check points. Now I have always wanted to see Alaska and I´m guessing this way we will get the full experience.
There has been a lot of talk about bears (remember to feed them with an open palm, just like a horse) However the weather is probably going to be a bigger issue. From the videos that have been released it is clear that the weather can get pretty harsh. (We wont be expecting to get a nice tan). Expectations for the race are that it will be stunning scenery, and a seriously tough challenge.
The glitch…
Racing with a new team composition is always interesting and over the last few weeks training has been going well. We came second in the Harzt adventure race in Germany a month ago, and the team has then been working well together. This last week though has been slightly more interesting due to the fact Tobias (Team navigator) broke his hand mountain biking!
Wanna check how many friends you have? – try waiving around a free ticket to Alaska and a complimentary awesome adventure race to go with it on Facebook. Magic happens. Lars Bukkehave was picked out and will be filling in for Tobias. Lars is a very experienced racer, a strong navigator and paddler and so though we are sad Tobias wont be joining us, we are welcoming Lars to our team and we are confident he will fill in his place. Or at least keep us awake; he is known to talk… a lot (joke!).
See you in Alaska next week.
