Raid Gauloises
Parallax Leading At CP5
Chris/Raid Gauloises / 29.04.2002

After a first night’s racing through torrential rain-storms, American team Parallax came through CP5 at the head of the race. Ertips, Lapin Kulta and VSD-Eider were not far behind.
Last night at around 22h00, a violent electrical storm poured down torrential rain on the 51 teams. At that time every team, except the retired Spie-Batignolles, had already passed CP2 as they progressed along the initial 120kms trekking section.
With the exception of the leading teams some even took advantage of the severe weather to seek cover and get a little sleep. The American team Parallax, led by Tony Molina, checked in to CP5 at 05h00 local time on the morning of the 28th. Right behind them came the French team Ertips, recovering well from an earlier orienteering error between CP1 and CP2 , VSD-Eider and the Finns of Lapin Kulta . The winners of the 10th edition in Nepal, Nokia Adventure, were obliged to slow-down so that at 6h00 the same morning they were still absent at CP4, trailing the leaders by at least 25 minutes.
Team Parallax: Here’s another team whose strength derives from the subtle alchemy of coalescing continents and complementary capacities. Lining up to race at least once a month, these US and Australian hardcore, adventure racing pros find a long and hot race at the beginning of their season just what they need to get into the swing of things. The powerful antipodean paddlers might add some spice as the teams battle it out for victory on the final section.
