Kids to Adults get their Paddles Ready

­The 8th annual Royale International Kayak n Run Series is in full swing and now comes to the second leg on 11th June (Saturday) at Discovery Bay, Lantau Island. The race has two categories: The Family Kayak n Run and the Adult Kayak n Run. As one of the most popular adventure racing events in Hong Kong, Royale International Kayak n Run attracts not only adults but also many parents with kids every year. Different from the Adult Race, the Family Fun Race aims at getting families together, outdoors, and closer to nature.

The Family category team RayRunRay shared their experience of pre-race training. “We would train 1-2 times a week with 2-3km run. It is the perfect time to have the training around dinner time with my son. Training time is also a great chance for ‘mens talk’, my son & I would talk about the school or home life.” He also encouraged people to step out of the comfort zone, try to breakthrough and embrace the unknown.

Likewise in the Adult category team Garlic have been getting some training in, “Even though the daily work is busy, we still try to get more training after work, early in the morning or even during the lunch time. We usually go kayaking and running, and sometimes hitting the gym for core muscle exercise. During the weekends, we will do trainings on the trail which is similar to the race course. Our race goal is to try our best to make progress and enjoy the race. In the meanwhile, we like to share some trail running tips and go hiking with friends.” For beginners, they suggested training step by step and Hong Kong Trail Section 8 (Dragon’s Back) is a nice route to practice.
