This year’s Beast course will be located in the mountains of Western North Carolina and will feature extraordinary trekking, mountain biking, paddling and fixed ropes challenges. Transylvania County is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and will become a testing ground for adventure racers in Odyssey’s Beast of Transylvania. The area's brutal terrain lures outdoor athletes of all disciplines to its mountains to challenge themselves on some of the best whitewater, mountain bike trails, and rock climbing in the eastern United States.
Competitors can expect to be awed by the geological features in the area, including many waterfalls and magnificent rock formations. The steep terrain will test athletes as they routinely summit 5000 and 6000 ft. peaks in what is known to be some of the oldest mountains in the world. The course will take advantage of the area’s single-track trails for mountain biking and trekking, it’s sheer rock faces for ropes skills, and versatile water for paddling.
Lakes and waterways provide ideal areas for flat water paddling, while the large number of class II, III, and IV rapids along the rivers will provide excitement during the canoe leg.
