48 TEN\" ARCTIC INSANITY\"
Length: 480 miles
Location: Dalton Highway
Could you ride for 48 hours at an average speed of 10 mph? Doesnt sound too bad does it, after all some guys cover 500+ miles in a 24hr event. But throw in the arctic plains, the Brook Ranges, Alaska\'s highest road pass, the arctic circle and 50% gravel and you\'ve got a whole new ball game.
We\'re inviting the toughest riders from around the world to test their fitness and mettle in this ultimate endurance event.
Taking advantage of near 24 hour daylight, riders will set out from Deadhorse at the northern end of the Dalton Highway in Alaska and head towards the city of Fairbanks, approximately 480 miles south. To avoid being picked up by the sweeper bus competitors will have to ride at an average speed of 10mph reaching each 120 mile 1/4 stage marker in 12 hours or less. Those who do not keep up the pace will be picked up by the sweeper vehicle and transferred to the coach and their race will be over. For the riders that keep ahead of the sweeper bus, the main coach will be available at each 120 mile marker to collect any change of clothing, food or spares etc needed for the next 120 mile stint.
The event is open to individuals and teams of any number of up to 5 riders, but to qualify for a place on the podium each rider must complete every mile of the course.
Places are very limited so early applications are invited.
The event will follow the itinerary below:-
6/8/2007 Race registration Prudoe bay (venue tba)
7/8/2007 10am race start Deadhorse.
9/8/2007 10am race cutoff time Fairbanks.
The entry fee of £350 includes full use of the support vehicles throughout the event, 1 nights accomodation at a hostel in Fairbanks and post race celebrations for those left standing!!
Other costs that will be incurred during the event will be as follow:-
Accomodation at Prudhoe bay (approx £60pn) Transport to Prudhoe bay - Anchorage to Prudhoe bay approx £190
Fairbanks to Prudoe bay approx £80
Fairbanks to Prudhoe bay with support vehicles(approx 12 hours) £20 (must be in Fairbanks on 5/8)
All food and drink required for the event. As facilities are limited along the Dalton Highway it is suggested that all sustenance is bought along.
