Taking adventure sports right into the streets, waterways and urban jungle of the world’s coolest cities, the Rat Race is a physical and mental adventure challenge that uses the city as its playground. Teams of 3 competitors run, bike, kayak, navigate, abseil and climb their way all over the city in a course that is only revealed moments before they begin. It is for all fitness levels.
Urban Adventure Racing is THE hottest sport to test limits of fitness, nerves, teamwork and stamina. Attaining unparalleled success in the UK over the past 5 years, the Rat Race invites to its metropolitan playgrounds an eclectic mix of weekend warriors, runners, mountain bikers, tri-athletes, extreme sport junkies, outdoor types, alternative city break tourists, and adventure racers from around the world.
The Rat Race has been staged in cities including London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol, Brighton, Belfast, and Galway, with the event reaching Australia in 2008.
Melbourne has been chosen as the first city outside the UK to stage a Rat Race event, and this will be held on the weekend of November 22 and 23, 2008. The competition will be fierce, not least of which will be the Australia v England battle – you see the champion team from the 2008 UK series will be flown out to take on our best...yet another opportunity to dismantle English pride!
The Melbourne Rat Race 2008 will see competitors gain unprecedented access to some of the most famous venues in Australia’s sporting capital. An eclectic mix of Rat Race adventure, adrenalin and all round action the length and breadth of Melbourne-town awaits all canny rats.
