This year’s Angry Seagull will have an exciting and challenging new race format that has been created to appeal to both novice and experienced adventure racers. The Angry Seagull Adventure Race will remain a journey with a start, a finish, and mandatory checkpoints that each team will travel through on their adventure. In addition to these mandatory checkpoints, each section of the race will include additional CPs that teams can visit to score points. The point value of each CP will be pre-determined based on the extra distance required, difficulty of travel and navigational difficulty. Final race standings will first be determined by each team’s score, with finish time being the tiebreaker when teams finish with identical scores.
The 2009 Angry Seagull will also include extra team challenges. Some challenges will be for points; some will be mandatory and must be completed before teams can continue in the race. During the race, each transition area will have an opening and closing time. Teams will have to plan their race strategies around these times, carefully planning which extra CPs they will visit.
We hope this new format will make for an exciting, challenging, fun and entertaining race for all teams - new and experienced; fast and slow. Our goal is for all teams to be able to successfully complete the race, while also ensuring that all teams are on the course for at least 22 hours of racing. This new format will also give novice teams a chance to see the experienced teams several times during the race, both on the course and in transition areas, allowing new racers the potential to learn more for future races.
