The Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge, with its practical stage format, sensible rules and team-friendly logistical infrastructure, gives any moderately experienced team the opportunity to compete against an unparalleled field of the world's top teams in excellent conditions.

The organisation behind the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge has a wealth of experience drawn from years of devising competitions where adventure and racing really are the optimum words and we know a fully-fledged, long-distance adventure race can really tax the resources of even the most race-hardened teams but ask one of these world-beating squads how they planned their strategy or what their race tactics were and you invariably hear something along the lines of: "…all we did is race at our own rhythm…" - one of the preconditions for success in any serious endurance event.

The optional routes included in the longer, more challenging stages, desert trekking for example, allows all teams to maximise their physical effort, racing at their own rhythm, while at the same time opting to incur a time penalty rather than blow their chances of continuing the race through exhaustion. This way everyone is guaranteed a hard fought contest as well as getting to stay in the race.

In order to define a level playground and allow the maximum freedom of expression for all competing athletes, we havecreated a system of rules and regulations that provide the safest, surest balance between your unfettered enjoyment and the risks and factors that make an adventure race so exhilarating. Penalties may well be incurred by the odd navigational error or overestimating your stamina but, once again, this crucial combination of restraints and guidelines allows you to race to your fullest capacity without worrying about getting "shut out" by time constraints.

To make your organisation as smooth as possible, top quality bikes are provided for all as well as cutting edge sea-kayak technology. All the logistics involved in transporting teams, gear and setting up the transitional bivouacs, where hot meals are served in an ambience of camaraderie and traditional hospitality, is also covered by the organisation so no support crew is required. But there is one final cherry on this cash saving cake.

In an incentive to reduce the cost of competing in this year's race, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority has managed to negotiate with their local partners and suppliers enabling an economy of on the registration fee, compared with previous years, to ensure costs does not exclude any team from falling foul of rising travel costs and missing out on Adventure Racing's most accessible and exciting challenge. (Entry now costs €2500 per team.) There are few arenas in the AR world where aspiring rookies can directly confront established champions in conditions ideally suited to a goliath killing exploit – the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge is one of them.

The ADAC website gets a makeover with extra features designed to keep you informed and in touch

Those of you who have already taken The Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge will recognize the attraction of a gruelling, 6-day race that includes grand, end-of-day bivouacs and the opportunity this affords to swap tips and tactics with the other athletes from around the globe. In order to extend this conspicuous camaraderie, we have put together a couple of extras that no self-respecting international event should be without.
