ITERA – Expedition Adventure Racing Returns to Wales in 2014
News Release - Open Adventure / 29.08.2013

Expedition Adventure Racing returns to the UK in 2014 with ‘ITERA’, a 5 day non-stop Adventure Race across Wales.
The event will run from 9th to the 16th August 2014 and is part of the Adventure Racing World Series, meaning the winners will receive a guaranteed place at the 2014 World Championships in Ecuador.
Mixed Teams of four will take on the challenging Welsh landscape by foot, mountain bike and kayak. Wales is a land of mountains, with a rugged coastline, several offshore islands and a climate which is not to be underestimated, even in the British summertime. It is also a country with a great history of endurance sport and a rich cultural heritage, so expect a few castles and historical sites along the race route. Surprisingly there has not been an expedition adventure race in Wales since the British Adventure Racing Championships in 2003, so it is a welcome and rare opportunity to race there.
The exact route is not disclosed until just before the start of the event which all adds to the suspense. The full route is around 600km, but with numerous short-cuts and options to catch some sleep so novice teams can still take on this unforgettable journey.
The man behind this journey is Adventure Racing World Champion Tom Gibbs. Tom has over 15 years experience of adventure racing and is a veteran of over 25 expedition races including 7 world championships.
ITERA gives him an opportunity to use that knowledge to design a world class course that will challenge all competitors. "I am very focussed on providing the competitors with a great course that gives them a journey and an unforgettable experience, as much as a race. The course will not be designed to be hard - the teams racing for victory will do that for themselves!"
More details on this event will be published on the ITERA website at the end of September and entries will open on October 1st. (There will be discounts for pre-Christmas entries.)
In the meantime you can find a video short we have put together on this great event at www.itera.co.uk
The ITERA race is presented by Open Adventure. Open Adventure are behind the Haglofs Open5 Series, the adidas TERREX Adventure Races and the Coast to Coast Adventure Race.
