Couer D’Alene Idaho - USA. Jan 23rd 2014 – Perpetual Motion Events (PermoEvents) today announced the launch of the 2014 Expedition Idaho, starting on the 10th August, and which will take place in the backcountry east of Couer D’Alene, North Idaho.

The event will start and finish in the town of Kellogg, approximately 30 miles east of Couer D’Alene. Up to 30 international teams will challenge themselves as they race non-stop for 7 days over a course of  500 miles, principally by trekking, mountain biking and rafting, though other disciplines including rappelling and ‘surprise’ stages may be included. Entry will open on Tuesday March 6th.

The 2011 event was hailed as one of the best Expedition races in the world, praised for its racer friendly format, location, and in particular, for its unique finish. Mimi Guillot, who races for two-time world champions, Team Thule Adventure, said of the finish; ‘This is the finish of a lifetime. I’ll remember this for the rest of my life’. Team Thule Adventure are expected to be on the start line this year, and as current World Champions, they are expected to be a draw to other teams wanting to measure themselves against ‘the best.’

This year’s event, which starts in the idyllic town of Kellogg, Idaho, marks the return of the race after a 2 year break, and places are expected to be taken up quickly due to the organiser’s intention to make the race very pure and in-line with the traditions of true expedition races. It will be a race where competitors are immersed in the wilderness with only a minimum level of support outside of the Transition Areas.

Race director Dave Adlard, of Couer D’Alene. Idaho, said ‘Expedition Idaho will provide a once-in-a lifetime experience to the intrepid souls who have the true spirit of adventure in their hearts, and who long to undertake a special journey that will leave their spirit changed for ever. The teams will be racing through some of the most beautiful and magnificent terrain that Idaho has to offer, and the racers will not only race through it, but truly become one with it’.

The race will be coordinated by Expedition Racing legend Mike Kloser who said ‘if you come and race, you won’t be dissapointed’ . Mike will bring a huge wealth of experience to the event at every level both techinical and organizational.

Alongside the full expedition format event, there will be a simultaneous event ‘Adventure Idaho’ which will allow less experienced teams to experience the highlights of the main race, but with the luxury of overnight stops and shorter individual stages. Perpetual Motion Events believe this will not only encourage the growth of the sport, but will have spin-off eco-tourism benefits for both the State of Idaho and the region, due to the intense worldwide media coverage and testimonials of the competitors.

Expedition Idaho will also have one of the best prize pots in American  adventure racing. Provided 16 teams enter, a mínimum of $10,000 dollars will be placed in a trust account, and a percentage of all subsequent entries will also be added to the prize fund.  Additionally, the winning team will be given a free entry to the 2015 Expedition Alaska, which will take place in the remote Kenai peninsular. This is already one of the most talked about  new events on the world calendar, and will herald a return to the state where some would argue, the sport of adventure racing was born. The other finishers at Expedition Idaho will also be given preferred entry options to Expedition Alaska.
