Who’s up for Cowboy Tough? In conjunction with the State of Wyoming and the City of Casper, Rev3 Adventure is excited to open registration for year three of the 3.5-day Cameco Cowboy Tough Expedition Race on July 16-19, 2015.

Once again, teams will take on some of Wyoming’s most challenging back country. Expect mountain biking though technical single track, fire roads, and flowing trails, with plenty of ropes work, trekking, and paddling on the way to the finish line in Casper. Teams will also pass though some of Wyoming’s fascinating historical landmarks, highlighting the Wild West and Native American culture.

As in year’s past, this multiday race will challenge both experienced and first-time expedition racers’ physical and mental endurance over 400 miles in less than four days, all with a spectacular backdrop and a fun and impressive supporting cast of characters.

The 2015 course starts in the city of Buffalo, located at the foothills of the towering Bighorn Mountains, and passes through at least two working ranches, so the theme for year three really brings out the “cowboy” in the Cowboy Tough. The race director has added more optional points to challenge elite teams both physically and navigation-wise, and mandatory points will, as in previous years, highlight the best parts of the course and challenge all participants.

The 2014 CCT had seventy-four registrants—ten teams of two and thirteen teams of four people—who made their way from South Pass City to Casper in 3.5 days. Their first tasks began in South Pass City, a wonderfully intact former gold mining town. On Thursday racers tackled a rappel, a cave, canoeing, biking, and trekking. They started in Sinks Canyon and finished at Boysen Reservoir at the end of Day 2, which in many cases was in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

On Saturday, Day 3, they trekked, mountain biked, and whitewater rafted, ending up in Hell’s Half Acre for another optional orienteering course. On the last day of the race, Sunday, they left the transition area “Dark Zone” on bike for a final helping of adventure, finishing up the race at noon on the whitewater course in Crossroads Park in Casper.

Racers do not have a support crew. REV3 will transport a container for each team member in the mobile TA for resupply at each transition area.
