CanadaMan/Woman 2019 - Entries open

Press Release / 14.11.2018See All Event Posts Follow Event

The third edition of Lac-Mégantic’s Canada Man/Woman Extreme Triathlon will be presented on July 7th, 2019. At the close of this edition, athletes from 24 countries, 9 Canadian provinces, and 17 American states will have lined up at the start of this unique challenge.

Lac-Mégantic’s - and Canada Man/Woman’s - uniqueness stems from its wild, intense, and authentic character. As athletes enter the Lac Mégantic waters at dawn, they will embark upon the experience of a lifetime, one that goes way beyond a race against the clock. Participants will brave the cold water for 3.8 km before taking in breathtaking scenery as they complete a 180 km biking section with an elevation change of 2 500 m before finally running 42 km, for the most part along running trails that will take them through the forest, amidst the Canadian wilderness, facing yet another elevation change of 1 600 m. The goal: reach the summit of Mont Mégantic, a viewpoint that towers over the region. Despite the superhuman effort required to conquer this challenge, many athletes, such as Lyne Bessette and Jérôme Bresson, who will be participating for the third time in 2019, keep coming back, hungry to relive this amazing experience. Lyne Bessette, an Olympian as well as an endurance and adventure sports enthusiast, won the first two Canada Woman editions, whereas Jérôme climbed onto the top step of the podium this past July earning a pass to take part in the mythical Norseman event where he finished 7th.

From the first edition of this extraordinary event, members of the Lac-Mégantic community and its region have embraced the adventure and helped us make it a unique experience for athletes from around the world. In fact, in the opinion of all athletes, it is the warm and personalized way that locals welcome them to the region that makes their experience so special. They return because they now almost feel as if they are part of the family! As a result, the success associated with Canada Man/Woman has exceeded our expectations. In 2017, the word “triathlon” was among the most searched words linked to Lac-Mégantic. This indicator represents much more than the popular success of an international race. It reflects the actions undertaken by an entire community to create an event that promotes both the beauty of its region and the warm hospitality of its population, an event the community has made its own.

Athletes’ spirit of participation and strong desire to push their limits characterize the Canada Man/Woman Extreme Triathlon. The event has impacted the population on many levels. The number of people training in the sports center’s pool and in open water has exploded and the number of local athletes participating in the sprint triathlon, presented the day before the Canada Man/Woman Extreme Triathlon, has greatly increased. Whether it’s as athletes, volunteers, merchants, or elected representatives, nearly all Lac-Mégantic inhabitants and those who live nearby are proud to be linked to the event in some way.

Canada Man/Woman is part of the XTRI WORLD TOUR, a series of extreme triathlons that includes the Norseman, the Celtman, the Alaskaman, the Swedeman, the Janosik, the Icon, the Hispaman, and the Patagonman. What’s more, winners of the Canada Man/Woman Extreme Triathlon will earn passes to participate in the 2020 Xtri World Championship presented in Norway, during the Norseman. Four chances to participate in the 2020 Norseman will also be drawn among participants.

Registration for Canada Man/Woman is now open! 125 spots are available.
