Wilderness Traverse 2019 Host Site & Date Announcement
Press Release / 03.02.2019
We are thrilled to announce the host site for the 10th Anniversary edition of Wilderness Traverse will be the stunning hamlet of Dorset, Ontario in Algonquin Highlands, situated smack-dab in the middle of some epic backcountry wilderness!
Race Director Bob Mller says; "I've been super-excited pouring over maps and envisioning where the course may take us, especially with such close proximity to, ahem, Canada's oldest Provincial Park! Let the course planning and course speculating begin!
"This is also a homecoming of sorts for the event as it was launched a little southeast of Dorset at Sir Sam's Ski Resort. We're also moving the date back into August on the 24th/25th weekend. We've always felt this was a better time-frame for the event with warmer temperatures and few bugs, and the stars aligned this year with other commitments getting ushered aside. We know summer can be more challenging for people to escape family and friends for a giant weekend romp in the woods, but we're hoping you can fit us into your busy schedules.
"Registration has just opened with Early fees in effect until April 11th, 2019. So start contacting your more adventurously inclined friends and mapping out teams, or if you're in need, send me an email (bob@wildernesstraverse.ca) as I've already got a list of people looking to join and build teams.
For those who attended the 2018 event and endured one of the toughest mountain bike legs in WT history; the chain-sucking, derailleur eating, gut busting, swamp crossing, hill climbing sort of rides (there was also some epic trekking, crazy swimming, remote starlit paddling, moose dodging, and finish line conquering going on), we've got a small teaser of the event video that AW Media has been hard at work editing. Expect the full video release within the next month.
Outward Bound Canada
A huge congratulations and thanks to all the teams who raised funds for Outward Bound Canada and to all those who donated in 2018. Special commendation goes to Team The Breakfast Club who lead the way raising just shy of $9,000. As the top fundraising team they've earned free-entry into Wilderness Traverse 2019. All told we raised almost $25,000.00, which will go a long way in helping Outward Bound provide life-changing, wilderness experiences for Indigenous communities, vulnerable youth, women survivors of violence and military veterans.
2019 marks an important milestone in OBC’s history. It represents 50 years of changing lives through challenge, adventure and discovery. In celebration of this milestone year, we’d like to help OBC raise $50,000.
