It's a rare day when runners, swimmer, triathletes and mountain bikers come together for some high-intensity racing in pristine wilderness. That's exactly what'll happen this weekend when 2,000 competitors and spectators make the journey south of Perth for X-Adventure, Dunsborough—an off-road triathlon and aquathlon event.

Adventure seekers will be stomping the trails and slapping the ocean water all day Saturday and Sunday in any of the 5 different events being held over the weekend.

Returning for its seventh year, X-Adventure includes long and short course races covering ocean swimming, trail running and mountain biking, plus two kids' events and an aquathlon (a swim and run combination for individuals and teams).

James Daniels, age 42, from Canterbury in New Zealand says, "I was a top 20 finisher in the short course two years in a row and want to challenge myself on the long course this year."

The Olympic distance triathlon is similar to the X-Adventure long Course race—taking about two hours and 30 minutes—and the sprint distance triathlon is equal to the X-Adventure Short Course race—taking about 1hr30min for the winner. The 2019 long course event also doubles as the Western Australian Cross-Tri State Championships.

There are stacked fields in all races with more than 1,200 athletes already entered and over 1,400 expected on race day—a testament to the event's recognition as Australia's largest off-road triathlon.

Professional athletes including Matt Burton from Western Australia will be using the off-road format as a warm-up for upcoming events like Busselton 70.3, "I missed automatic qualification for Ironman Kona so I'll be doing X-Adventure to freshen up and do something fun then redirect my efforts toward the Busselton Ironman in May," said Burton.

A number of participants are there just to have a good time though. A crisp sea breeze and a welcoming environment are a big draw card. Jacob Sangster, age 15, from Claremont in Perth says, "I've been adventure racing for years and going strong." A stalwart at age 15!

It's a chance for parents to get active with their kids too. "I'm a mother of two that enjoys the outdoors and being active with my kids," said Sara Marshall, 38, form Scarborough in Perth.

"X-Adventure is highly regarded for the variety of races conducted over the weekend, from long course races through to the groms event for kids aged as young as 3 years, meaning that just about anyone can participate," said Sam Maffett, General Manager of Rapid Ascent. 'We can't wait!"

It'll be a jam-packed weekend of quality racing mixed with a good dose of fun in a superb location south-west of Perth that is for sure.  People interested in competing or attending X-Adventure 2019 can find out more at www.XAdventure.com.au. Registrations are open Friday evening and all weekend at the event too.
