Racing and Riding Round Richmond
Press Release / 19.12.2019
At this time of year the weather is quite unpredictable, and last weekend's event in Richmond was certainly chilly!
Fortunately, the bridleways were much better than expected after a wet week. The second event of the NYMBO 2019/20 winter series was based for the first time at Richmond Golf Club, which was a great venue and offered the chance to explore some lanes and bridleways around the town. A course map covering about 70 km sq provided lots of route choice, Most riders chose to go down to the Swale before heading east towards Skeeby, north towards Whashton before deciding whether to head west onto the Feldom Ranges and over the racecourse or just back to the finish.
All the riders came back safely and still smiling, and a special mention to the winners - Ian Furlong (412 points) ; Tim Evans (309), Karen Blackburn (235) and Richard & Jake Hutchinson (120). As the maximum score is 525 this was clearly quite a challenging course! Half of the controls were on tarmac which suited road bikes but the others were on the better bridleways where mountain bikes were a definite advantage. It was also great to see 2 riders on Ebikes.
Thanks to Richmond Golf Club for hosting the event, and to Steve Willis for planning and organising this one.
