The fourth edition of Adventure Race Croatia will be held from May 14-20th 2023, and entries will open on October 19th, when places are expected to fill up quickly.
The 2023 race will be in the Istria and Gorski Kotar regions, and this time the course will take racers along the inland rivers and over the rugged mountains in the heart of Croatia, until they reach the Adriatic Sea.
The course will be around 520 kilometres long with a winning time of approximately 75 hours. Unlike past years, this one will have optional checkpoints which will allow teams to create their own short course.
In past editions of ARC, the Gorski Kotar region has surprised many with its wild diversity and tricky weather conditions, high up in the mountains. Racers experienced a strong contrast of scorching sun on the islands to almost low-digit temperatures in the mountains. Next year could be similar and knowing this area one thing is for sure - there won’t be only one kind of weather.
Even the most loyal racers who have raced ARC from the start will experience something completely new in this edition. Croatia is full of rivers creating a wealth of adventure possibilities that Race Director Igor Dorotić is eager to share. Untouched wilderness and areas that people rarely visit will give the teams a feeling of solitude but, as is always the case in Croatia, civilisation might be near without them even knowing it.
Next year, for the first time, ARC will visit the beautiful Istrian peninsula. This region is known for its pleasant climate, endless vineyards, beautiful mediaeval towns, steep mountain climbs and breathtaking views. There is a reason why some parts of Istria are compared to Tuscany and tourists swarm to the coast of Istria every summer. And while there might be many tourists in May, teams won’t see them until the last few hours of the race.
The host resort for ARC 2023 is the amazing Lanterna Premium Camping Resort in Tar, located near Poreč in Istria. Teams will be accommodated in premium camping homes located in a beautifully landscaped part of the camp, decorated in the marine style ad surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and close to a new aqua park and pool.
Every edition of Adventure Race Croatia explores a new part of this beautiful country. Disciplines include mountain biking, trekking, kayaking and orienteering.
Adventure Race Croatia is somewhat different from most of the races in ARWS. Shorter stages, and lots of them, is what ARC has always been about. There will typically be between 14 -17 stages and trek stages will rarely be over 40 km, with bike stages less than 100 km and kayak stages up to 40 km.
Lots of stages means a lot of transitions, so you should think of transitions as a separate discipline at ARC, because you can lose a lot of time in them if you are not organized, prepared and efficient. So don’t forget to train transitions too.
Registration opens on October 19, 2022. The early bird fee is 3700 Euros until December 31, 2022. The maximum number of teams is 30 with the possibility of opening 10 extra spots.
