Introducing the all-new Shimano Gravel Muster Stage Race
Press Release / 17.01.2024
Australia’s gravel racing scene has been revolutionised with the launch of Australia’s first gravel stage race, the new Shimano Gravel Muster Stage Race – conducted by Rapid Ascent.
Set against the backdrop of the East MacDonnell Ranges near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, the event will take place on the 22 – 25 August 2024 with entries now open.
This 4-day ‘all inclusive’* gravel riding experience promises an unparalleled blend of "fast-bunch-racing" with timed racing stages and “social riding with friends” during the untimed cruising sections in each day’s route.
This unique mix of racing and riding allows riders to test their mettle whilst also experiencing the sheer beauty of the outback landscapes at a more leisurely pace. All in all, it’ll be an "expedition-of-a- lifetime" on true outback gravel roads that snake through spectacular gorges and vast open plains.
Evenings will be spent together in outback cattle stations nestled in the heart of Australia's stunning Outback. Accommodation on Day 2 and 3; along with most meals and all logistics are included in the entry fee*, providing an opportunity for riders to relax, share stories around the campfire, and forge lifelong friendships beneath a star-studded sky.
Race Director Sam Maffett of Rapid Ascent expresses excitement about the unique format, stating,
"The Shimano Gravel Muster is not just a race; it's an experience,” said Maffett.
“It allows gravel riders to experience this magnificent landscape on their bikes and share their stories and camaraderie with others in the most spectacular setting. With timed and untimed segments on quality gravel roads, it’s an event for all riders.”
With temperatures hovering around the comfortable low 20s this is the ideal winter escape for gravel riders seeking quality racing and riding in a fully supported event environment.
Shimano joins the event as naming rights partner with Shimano’s Toby Shingleton stating that they ‘see the event as the future of gravel racing and unique to the Australian gravel scene.’
The event would not be possible without the support from the NT Government which has supported Rapid Ascent to design, develop and deliver the event at a national level following the success of its’ predecessor, The Redback MTB Stage Race.
With limited entries available, Rapid Ascent recommend entering early to secure your place. For more information about the Shimano Gravel Muster to enter online, please visit www.gravelmuster.com.au.
