The start of the 2015 race

The Beast Story

Beast Adventure Race began life as the Beast of Ballyhoura in 2007, when it was organised by the Ballyhoura Failte in collaboration with Outsider magazine and race director, Greg Clark.

The race quickly established itself as the toughest adventure race in Ireland attracting teams from around Ireland and further afield.

Forward a few years and the race continued under the direction of Ivan Park and Eoghan Carton where it was part of the European Adventure Race Series and served as the European Championship race in 2015 and Eoghan continued to host the race in Donegal and Northern Ireland in 2017 and 2018.

The Beast holds a special place in the hearts of all adventure racers in Ireland as it’s a race that introduced many to expedition length adventure racing, delivered many epic adventures over the years and created many friendships.

Quotes:

Cormac Mac Donnell, Race Director, expressed his enthusiasm about the race’s return: “We are delighted to bring the Beast Adventure Race back to Ireland in 2025, taking over the baton from Ivan and Eoghan, who have hosted great races in the past. This event embodies the spirit of adventure racing in Ireland and will present a tough challenge to all teams who take it on. We look forward to welcoming teams from around Ireland, the UK and further afield to the Southeast of Ireland, where we promise a great race, and after race party.”
