For over a decade, the Run Larapinta Stage Race has been captivating trail runners with its breathtaking journey through the stunning landscapes of Australia’s Red Centre.

In an impressive display of enthusiasm, the 2025 event reached its entry capacity in just hours after opening, with 200 passionate runners securing their spot for the bucket-list adventure. And amazingly, 60% of the filed entered within the first 10 minutes!

The 4-day, 4-stage trail running event will be held from August 15-18 2025, along the most spectacular sections of the iconic Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory, based out of Alice Springs.

Event Director Sam Maffett of Rapid Ascent expressed his pride in the event’s legacy;

“We are truly honoured to have built such an inspiring event over the years,” said Maffett. “To witness the continued enthusiasm from runners as we approach our 11th year in the outback is a testament to the community we’ve fostered.”

To maintain an intimate experience, Rapid Ascent has a self-imposed field limit of 200 runners. A waiting list for the 2025 event is now active for those interested in joining, HERE.

The event features two course options: the Malbunka long course, with daily stages ranging from 20km to 41km, and the Namatjira short course, featuring stages of 13km to 27km. Both courses traverse the breathtaking West MacDonnell Ranges.

Participants will be treated to awe-inspiring views; from the the tectonic lines of an outback landscape merging with a distant horizon; to the steep sided gorges brought to life with waterholes at their base.

Iconic landmarks along the courses include Brinkley Bluff, Standley Chasm, Simpsons Gap, and the picturesque finish line of Ellery Creek Waterhole.

With a challenging course that transcends time, matched with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly camaraderie – Run Larapinta generates that little bit of magic, one unforgettable step at a time.

“The real beauty of Run Larapinta lies in its participants.” Said Maffett. “We always bear witness to the supportive spirit among our participants who will form connections with fellow runners that persist for years!”

The Run Larapinta Stage Race has established itself as a must-do bucket-list event in Australia, earning overwhelmingly positive reviews from past participants and those lucky enough to secure a place in the 2025 event;

The event would not be possible without the support from the NT Government which has helped Rapid Ascent deliver the event at a national level and cement its’ phenomenal reputation.
