The 2nd place of local male runner and top local female runner in the first race of MSIG Action Asia Development Programme – MSIG Island 50, Mr. Hui Ho Tat and Ms. Cheung Man Yee were invited to participate in MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50 on 17 December 2017 and claimed overall champion and 2nd place woman respectively.

Mr. Henry Hui, the Chief Operating Officer of MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited said “We are delighted that our local representatives fared so well. As sponsors of the MSIG Action Asia Development Programme, we will now be cheering these winners on to even greater success on the world stage, by helping them to prepare for the World Championships in Europe in July 2018,”

Retaining the top local woman title after the three qualifying races, Cheung Man Yee was invited to Chiang Mai for MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50 on 17 December and won the 2nd place of 54km women category. She was surprised by the results, “I didn’t expect much regarding the MSIG Action Asia Development Programme ranking, as I didn’t perform very well in MSIG Lantau 50, so I am so glad and happy with the latest result!” She also shared her excitement participating in MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50, “Overall, the course is really nice as you can also see the environment and atmosphere of the villagers in Doi Inthanon. I was really enjoying it a lot!”

Hui Ho Tat was also invited to participate in MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50 and claimed the overall champion in a blistering result of 06:48:58. “It is my first overseas trail running race and I want to thank MSIG and Action Asia Events for this opportunity. I was deeply honoured and pleased to be the Hong Kong representative joining this amazing event with such a satisfying result and I will definitely train harder and aim higher!”

Ranked overall 15th place and 17th place in MSIG HK50 – Hong Kong Island and MSIG Lantau 50 respectively, The North Face / Asia Trail runner, Ng Wai Hei, is excited with the great chance to race in Europe. “I’m quite surprised knowing I am the top local male so far, as I never thought of winning the development programme but only to try my best and enjoy every race while competing on the course, I am really pleased to be a qualified candidate of the MSIG Action Asia Development Programme!” He also shares how trail running helps chasing his childhood dream, “I always want to be an outstanding athlete since I was a child, and had tried several sports. However, my performance was just average, until I found myself having relatively strong endurance and fitness, I start hiking and then trail running, it turns out trail running matches me most and I am now wishing to be an elite trail runner.”

Sponsored by global general insurer MSIG, the MSIG Action Asia Development Programme is the first programme of its kind for local Hong Kong trail runners. To qualify for the programme, runners need to be Hong Kong-born, and must participate in at least two 50-kilometre races in the MSIG HK50 Series. The highest-ranked local male and female runners at the end of the four-race series will also win a five-month comprehensive professional coaching programme to prepare them for the 2018 Skyrunning World Championships in Europe. Plus, in the lead up to the World Championships, MSIG Action Asia Development Programme winners will also be awarded free entry of the Lijiang Yunnan Action Asia 3 Day Ultra which is held in mainland China in April 2018.
