The BIKE Festival Willingen keeps on writing its success story. The 21st event edition reported a record of 40,000 visitors who checked by the huge festival fair built right next to the lower terminus of the Ettels Mountain Gondola from Saturday to Whit Monday to get a glimpse on the latest mountain bike developments.

More than 120 exhibitors had set up shop to present their new products to the big number of end-consumers. Like last year, all prestigious brands did also emphasize the eMTB sector.

According to the current trend, 30% of the 1,000 test bikes available at site were equipped with electronic support. And also the Bosch eMTB Challenge supported by Trek, a mix of enduro and orientation race for e-mountain bikes, was very popular.

Compared to last year, more than twice as many riders did tackle the five challenging stages through the Willingen hinterland.

“With more than 20 years already under its belt the BIKE Festival Willingen is still one of the most important events of the cycling industry. No other mountain bike fair gives end consumers such a good opportunity to test the latest trends. No matter if in the eMTB sector, in the traditional mountain bike or road cycling field,” explains Mathias Ley, CEO of the Hamburg based organising event company Ley Events GmbH.

Besides the huge expo areal numerous sport events attracted some 2,500 riders to Northern Hesse with the most of them competing on the brand new marathon course, which is arguably the flagship event of Europe's long distance races.

In addition, the respective second stop of the Scott Enduro Series and iXS Downhill Cup took also place while road cyclists got their money worth riding the Warsteiner Sauerland-Giro. The youngest talents and up-and-coming stars had the chance to scent some competition air giving their best in the Scott Junior Trophy.

A similar wide-ranging programme is to be expected for next year when the BIKE Festival Willingen returns to the Hochsauerland region. From 17 to 19 May, 2019, Germany's biggest outdoor fair is set to open its doors for the 22nd time.
