Huairasinchi Movistar 2018 – An Ecuadorian Adventure Awaits International Teams

“Proyecto Aventura”, the organizers of the 15th edition of “HUAIRASINCHI” Movistar 2018 will shortly welcome teams from around the world to the oldest adventure race in Ecuador. It is the oldest expedition adventure race in the world and for the first time it will be held around the beautiful town “Baños de Agua Santa”, which is in Tungurahua Province.

Huairashinchi will start next Friday, July 20th, with 32 teams from Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand, France, United Kingdom, The United States and of course Ecuador.

The competition schedule is already prepared and will begin with the arrival and registration of all the teams in the Municipal Coliseum on Saturday 21st. The opening ceremony and briefing will be held in the Town Hall where teams will learn the routes they must complete. It is extremely important that teams have reviewed all regulations and compulsory equipment by then.

The start of the race will be at 07:30 am, Sunday 22nd of July, and teams will be transported from Baños to the starting point at 04:30 am.

The 20 Elite teams will have to complete 317 kms in less than 4 days. In summary the race will have several stages as follows: 45kms kayaking, 127kms mountain biking, 27kms trekking, 22kms mtb, 42kms trekking, 35kms mtb, and for the 7th and final stage; 19kms of trekking. This category is a qualifying race in the Adventure Racing World Series and the winners will receive a paid entry into the AR World Championship in November.

The 12 teams in the Adventure category will have to complete approximately 144 kms in 3 days. Stages will be as follows: 1st day: 45kms kayak. 2nd day: 27kms trekking and 22kms MTB. For the 3rd and last day: 35kms MTB and 19kms trekking.

The closing and award ceremony will be held at Hotel Sangay, in Baños, on Wednesday July 25th. The Adventure category will go first at 12:00, followed by the Elite category at 18:00.
