Silkeborg is going to be buzzing with Adventure race activity today with 3 different length races taking place at once.  The leaders in the expedition length Masters race will reach the finish line during the day, and more Masters teams will pass through TA6 which is set on the outskirts of town. (They pick up canoes here to start the final two stages of the race.)

At the same time the Challenge and Fighter classes are taking place today, with over 80 teams of 3 racing around the town and its surrounding lakes and forests.  These teams will gather this morning at the Papirfabrikken area for the 5 and 3 hour races which always include lots of short challenges like rafting, climbing and swimming as well as orienteering, in the streets, on mountain bikes and on foot.

Exactly what they will be doing they won’t know until after the Prologue this morning – only when that is complete will they get their maps and instructions. They will finish back at Papirfabrikken, which acts as a hub for the race, and is also of course the finish for the Masters course.

The Masters teams are taking longer on the course than expected, but the winners should arrive during the peak of the activity when there are large crowds on the finish.  At the moment Team Yeti have around a 5 hour lead and they began the final mountain bike stage at 08.45 this morning after a canoe stage on which they struggled to stay awake. They did sleep in the canoes some of the time, mixing paddling and dozing and should make the finish line in the early afternoon after completing the final mountain bike ride.

Behind them second placed Racing Denmark are staying  ahead of Sue and the Powerfuff Girls, who are racing strongly and closing the gap, despite losing time due to a mix up with their maps. (They put their trekking maps in the wrong gear bag and had to ride to another TA to retrieve them!)

Most teams are now on the trekking stage, which has been as tough as predicted and has a long, totally flat end which teams are finding mentally tough after two nights without sleep.  Towards the back of the race Raceteam40+ have withdrawn and Adventure Race ALS plan to ride back to Silkeborg today after sleeping the night in Viborg. They will complete as much of the course as they can today, then head for the finish.

Which leaves the French Team ASL Raid as the last full course team and they have make TA4 by the 10.00 am closing time to avoid being short coursed. The do have until 6am tomorrow to complete the course but will be in a battle now to beat the TA closure times.
