Sculptures, mine shafts, ghost towns - tour time!!
Rosi / 10.08.2004

Riding out of Australia\'s biggest mining town - Broken Hill - the teams start with 50km of mountain biking to take in the local attractions. Broken Hill is also a very popular place for artists so naturally a visit to the famous sculpture park is in order, along with checkpoints down a mine, and one in a ghost town!
Other checkpoints on the way are at various homesteads, stations and geographical features. The first paddle leg is over half way through the course, so should provide welcome respite for the legs which by then will have travelled over 300km. THe relief may be short lived however as teams paddle their inflatable kayaks for around 70km to reach the mid race camp
Teams have spent the day working out their strategies, and planning their route. There are some options to be decided on , including whether to carry an MTB with them on the first kayaking leg (70km) in order to be able to use it on leg 10
