The ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series continues in the Isles of Scilly, our UK ÖTILLÖ race and one of our most spectacular locations on the tour. ÖTILLÖ and swimrun has become one of the fastest growing endurance sports in the world.

The unique Isles of Scilly will host its fourth ÖTILLÖ Swimrun weekend and it is the third stop of the 2019 ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series. Close to 120 teams from 20 nations will take the start for Sundays World Series race (June 9th).

Some of the best teams in the world will chase the coveted GOLDEN BIB and take on the challenge of winning six ÖTILLÖ races in a row and the prize purse of 33 000€ per category.

Others are on-site to try to get one of the eight qualification spots to the holy grail of Swimrun, the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship. A majority of the teams will be racing to experience the magic of the race course.

These nearly hundred and twenty teams will be challenged by this stunning course where the pairs will run along beautiful trails and do some major ocean swims.

THE LOCATION

We call the isles of Scilly "paradise lost" for a reason. These islands in the English channel just off the South Western tip of England are very special.

Almost five metres of tidal change, beautiful, perfect sand beaches, great single-track for trial running, palm trees, English manors and flowers en masse. It is also the place in England with the most historical remains per square metre. This is a true Swimrun paradise.

NEW FORMATS

On Saturday, June 8th we will host several shorter races to make the sport accessible to more people and to let newcomers experience the beauty of swimrun. All under the best organisation in the business.

The EXPERIENCE distance is 7,8 km with 3 swim sections totalling 950 metres. This race distance you can either do in teams of two or solo.

The SPRINT eludes to the distance and not to the speed. It is a total of 15,6 km with 8 swim sections totalling 3085 metres. This race distance you can either do in teams of two or solo.

We have close to 180 persons signed up for these beautiful tastes of ÖTILLÖ Swimrun.

SUNDAY'S WORLD SERIES RACE

The 120 teams of two, will have their powers of endurance tested to the limit over the ten trail runs and eight swim sections across the islands of St. Mary’s, Tresco, St. Martin’s and Bryher.

In total, they will cover 29 km on foot and 8,3 km in open water. Two of the swim sections are longer than 2 000 metres in the open Atlantic Ocean.

Depending on conditions, these stretches could be very rough. The water is around 14 decgrees C and the swims will be a difficult challenge even for the fittest. The fastest teams are expected to complete the course in around five hours.

Will lthe current World Champions Alexander Flores & Fredrik Axegård - Ark Swimrun (SWE) be able to keep the chasing french teams of Nicolas Remires & Julien Pousson (Envol) and Guillaume Henneman & Franck Martin (Head Gravelines - Tri) behind them?  As seen in previous races this year the top 5 teams are battling until the very last kilometres.

Last years Women's winner Susie Moonan & Anna Hellström (Team Envol) (SWE) will try to defend last years win with a big chase from Anneli Wall & Jenny Ramstedt (SWE) among others who will not let the win go very easily.

In Mixed we have the honor of seeing Triathlon great Lucy Gossage attempting Swimrun for the first- time together with Laurance Hulatt.  If we are lucky we will also see the great Thule Crew/ Wolff wear Head SR team - Martin Flinta (SWE) & Elena Karaskova Erbanova (CZE) - World champions, 2018 Golden Bib winners and World Ranking leaders - They will give the top 5 a big run for their money.

Some of swimrun’s top teams will be taking on the challenge at the Isles of Scilly along with many UK teams. Swimrun World Champions and winners of ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series will be on the start line, as well as athletes from all over the world, some are veterans of swimrun and some are totally new to the sport, but eager to find out why so many people are so hooked to the unique experience of racing in swimrun.

David Jackson, Executive Director of Islands’ Partnership, says: “We’re delighted to be hosting the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship UK Qualifier for the fourth year. The event is a welcome addition to Scilly’s adventure sports calendar that takes advantage of the islands’ rugged terrain and pristine waters. Best of luck to everyone taking part!”
