On 6 September 2019, GlobalLimits runners from 20 countries and all continents will be gathering in Tirana, the capital of Albania, for a 6-days, 220km adventure.  Their journey starts from the UNESCO World Heritage site, “The city of thousand windows”, Berat.  It continues through the picturesque mountain ranges (with 8,000m of altitude gain in total), across the Ionian Sea and finishes at the 2000 years old amphitheater in another World Heritage site of Butrint.  In between, the runners sleep under the stars in the remote wilderness, stay with local families, and experience this interesting country where ancient Greek, Roman and Ottoman cultures cross paths.

Apart from experiencing the natural beauty and hospitality, we are expecting a fierce competition to the podium.  We expect to watch the first time GlobalLimits runner, Ralph Crowley (USA), who is an experienced multi-stage racerunner and multiple podium winner, running along with his fellow countryman, Bryan Gensits, a young raising star in multi-stage race running and one of our top competitors in Bhutan this year.  Moreover, Arben Shati, who has been running in the race since its first edition, is our podium favorite.

The ladies form a strong force and tough fight this year with Lisenka Beenders (Netherlands) in her third GlobalLimits race within 12 months; Christina Khinast (Austria), who has been on our podium four times; Belinda van der Riet (South Africa) who was second in GlobalLimits Bhutan this year; and Barbara Blok, our doctor-turn-runners from the US, who is a competitive, podium-winning trail runner in her native Colorado.

But again, this is the race of the hidden treasures; and one never knows who has the secret endurance in a multi-stage race!

Following last years great result from our Albanian runners, this year we welcome another 5 runners from the region to our race.

What could be better than seeing friends from all over the world in a race? Four of our runners this time are qualified to receive the "GlobalLimits Heritage Site Runner" series award upon completing this race – they have already completed two other qualified GlobalLimits races in Cambodia and Bhutan: Karen Wei (HK), Lisenka Beenders (Netherlands), Keishaku Kimura (Japan) and Belinda van der Riet (South Africa).

Special mention: it is our pleasure to welcome first time multi-stage race runner Stéphanie Quadranti (22) from France, who is raising funds for the MND (Motor Neuron Diseases) Association and her father, who is fighting the disease.  Read her story on her facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stephanie.quadranti and fund raising page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/raiseforroberto

Spectators, friends and family could take part in the race and cheers for their own favorites by following GlobalLimits on Facebook www.facebook.com/GlobalLimitsSportMarketing, and Instagram @globallimits_running. Race reports, results and photos will be posted daily.
