National and international teams are preparing to traverse more than 250 km this December 2020. They will do it only by walking, climbing and biking during 4 days.

Currently Ecuador is a reference in the region and the world for adventure races. It maintains a position in the top 10 of the Adventure Racing World Series ranking, sharing this important position with world powers such as Spain, France, Russia, Sweden and Australia. In the field of Adventure Racing, the ARWS is the equivalent of the FIFA in professional soccer, demonstrating that Ecuador is a power in this discipline, and that it has much to offer geographically as well as sportively.

This December 2020, the Seventeenth Edition of the Huairasinchi Movistar will be held, part of the world circuit of adventure races.  The race has 17 teams of experts in the Expedition Category and 17 amateur teams in the Adventure Category. The nationalities of the participants are Ecuador, France, Brazil, Canada, United States, Colombia, Chile and Denmark. The race departure will be this Sunday, December 6th, 2020 in Canton Mejia, in Tierra del Volcán - Hacienda El Porvenir.

The race has been adapted to comply with strict biosecurity protocols and to guarantee a safe experience, full of adventure and a lot of exploration in the Ecuadorian Andes’ mountains.

The Huairasinchi has a "non stop" format. The participants need navigation skills, physical endurance and strategy to correctly navigate the terrain and complete the entire journey by their own means.

In order to respect the rules of physical distance, the race organization has implemented individual starts from 7:00 am. That is, each team will start the race independently and maintain a distance with other teams. To win the race, the teams will have to complete 4 stages that will combine running through Andean paths, mountain biking, technical paths with ropes and hiking, all in the shortest time possible and using the map and compass as the only orientation elements.

This race is the ideal opportunity to position Ecuador as an adventure and outdoor sports destination. With places that are little traveled, wild and full of magic; places that preserve and show an unmatched cultural richness. The race also wants to preserve the local identity, customs, culture and way of life.

The Huairasinchi, since its first edition, maintains a very clear objective: to change lives through adventure sports. The race aims to motivate its participants to explore Ecuador in a safe way, to know, understand and preserve the environment, the culture and to stop looking at nature as an object and get deeply involved with her. For Proyecto Aventura, race organizer, the motto is  #ExploreToLive .
