Press Release / 03.08.2022
On Saturday August 6th, 2022 the City of Gothenburg will provide the backdrop for ÖTILLÖ®, the origin of the sport of Swimrun.
Swedish Olympic Champion Nils Van der Poel will be starting together with Swimrun World Champion Oscar Olsson. They will have several other Swimrun World Champions to race against in the World Series distance.
The Southern Archipelago of Styrsö, Vrångö, Donsö, Brännö and Köpstadsö is a mere 15 minutes from the mainland and part of the City of Gothenburg. It has a history since the stone age and a geography that is unique. Beautiful granite islands, small, year-round hamlets and a vibrant summer community.
ÖTILLÖ® Swimrun Gothenburg on Saturday, August 6th will be a big day with close to 600 racers representing more than 20 nations. There will be three race distances catering for the whole spectra of swimrunners; from beginners to the absolute best in the world. This race day is a yearly event.
The Experience is 9,3 km, the Sprint is 17,5 km and the World Series is 33,3 km.
In the World Series twelve teams from the three categories (men, women & mixed) that do not already have a spot qualify to the 16th ÖTILLÖ®, The Swimrun World Championship in the Stockholm Archipelago on September 5th. This is the last chance to qualify.
"We are extremely happy and proud to be able to showcase one of the most beautiful parts of the city of Gothenburg. The islands in this Southern archipelago is nothing but spectacular and we cannot wait to show it off." - Mats Skott, Race Director ÖTILLÖ Swimrun.
