New Structure and Partnership at the Redback MTB Stage Race
Press Release / 20.02.2023
First established in 2008, The Redback MTB Stage Race will showcase a new exciting format and partnership for the 6-stage, 4-day event in Australia’s Red Centre on the 18 – 21 August, 2023.
This year, event organisers Rapid Ascent will be working with local mountain club, the Central Australian Rough Riders to bring participants the best of the best courses – and more of them too!
The new event structure offers ‘A-Line’ (long) and ‘B-Line’ (short) course options for five of the six stages allowing more rider abilities to access the infinite trail network surrounding Alice Springs. Riders can choose to enter all six of the stages on their preferred course distance, or pick and choose any stage(s) over the 4 days.
With blue skies that stretch to the horizon – it’s the perfect holiday escape for single track die-hards and Event Director John Jacoby is excited to bring these new additions to the well-established stage race.
“Things are happening in Alice Springs with (even) more new trail being built and (even) more riding alternatives – so we’ve be tweaked a number of stages to make the most of these new trails,” said John Jacoby.
The single track radiating out from Alice Springs are ENDLESS; providing limitless riding opportunities for all levels and abilities.
“If riding flowing, fun and fast singletrack is your thing then this is the event for you… we guarantee you’ll be a better rider after your Redback experience than before!” said Jacoby.
Easy race logistics with new event hotel partner The Mercure, allows competitors to roll to the start lines with no car or support crew needed. The event has the mantra of – race in the morning, sit back by the pool in the afternoon and share stories from the course.
Participants at The Redback over the years have often commented on the riding landscape; having exceeded their expectations and being blown away at the quality and quantity of the single track.
"To be able to race on these trails, in this land, in this environment, is really really enjoyable! The single track is BETTER than you would ever expect!" said Rohin Adams, Overall GC Male Winner 2022.
“The Redback trails are like no other and the landscape is so different to the rest of Australia,” said Pamela, a 2019 participant. “There is a wide variety of different surfaces from sand to rocks with long flowing trails and twisty technical sections with awesome rock climbs.”
“Great trails, great people, great fun… take it as hard or as easy as you like, just go out and enjoy the amazing trails set amongst incredible scenery” said Ben, a 2018 and 2019 participant.
The stages range from a 300m Hill Climb, to a 49km XC race and include plenty of variety. There’s rocky outcrops leading to twisting berm runs, and undulating trails that will see riders smiling (and sweating) from ear to ear.
The event would not be possible without the support from the NT Government which has helped Rapid Ascent deliver the event at a national level and cement its’ place as Australia’s longest running mountain bike stage race.
Organisers recommend entering early to secure your place. For more information about The Redback 2023 and to enter online, please visit www.TheRedback.com.au.
