The 33rd Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race Hits the Heights

The Internationally renowned 33rd “Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race” went off successfully from November 10 to 14, 2024 in the Darjeeling area of the North-East Himalayan ranges.
Adventure runners from various countries including U.S.A, U.K, Germany, France, South Africa, Canada, India took part in this novel event. The Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race has been distinguished as one of the world’s most challenging, beautiful and toughest endurance events.
Mr. Chris Lemke (Germany) won the 33rd International Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race with an overall time of 17 Hrs. 39 minutes. Among the male racers, the second and third positions were Mr. Maxime Gabrieau (France) with a time of 20 Hrs. 27 minutes and Mr. Murray Fraser (South Africa) with a time of 22 Hrs. 06 minutes respectively.
In the women's race first position was Ms. Alice William (UK) with a time of 21 Hrs. 35 minutes; the second position won by Ms. Stephnie Bancroft (UK) with a time of 29 hours 45 minutes.
The 3rd edition of Himalayan 100 Km Stage Race was won by Mr. Amitoj Singh (India) with an overall time of 19 Hrs. 56 minutes. In the Men's race the second and third positions were Mr. Varun Chadha (India) with a time of 20 Hrs. 28 minutes and Mr. Edward Sutton (UK) with a time of 20 Hrs. 57 minutes respectively.
The women's race winner was Ms. Kayla Ferguson (USA) in 20 Hrs. 31 minutes.
The youngest participant is Ms. Alice William (27 Years) from UK. The eldest participant is Mr. James Miller (72 Years) from USA & Mrs. Eileen Sutton (60 years) from UK.
The flag-off ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Balwan Singh, DIG, S.S.B., and the event was covered by world renowned photographer Mr. Kevin McGarry from UK and Mr. Udo Moller adventure sports writer from Germany.
The weather was beautiful and participants enjoyed the panoramic view of the highest peaks of the world while running. Such spectacular views are visible in the mountains very rarely.
The course traversed vast tea gardens, isolated jungles and small villages.
Participants also got the opportunity to have the spectacular view of Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu (four out of five highest peaks in the world). According to the runners, the race trail is most beautiful and exciting. It also offers a rare and once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy the cold breezes that hover around the rhododendron forests which holds more than four thousand types of flowering plants and three hundred varieties of rare ferns.
According to race director Mr. C S Pandey, the central ambition behind this event is to preserve the environment and local heritage of Indian Himalaya for future generations, and also keep the balance between body, mind and soul and make the Darjeeling area as hub for various adventurous sports.
According to him, “eco-friendly adventure sport is the best way to enhance ones’ spirits and brighten life. Becoming one with nature is the most satiating experience one can have, as it helps to keep the body and mind in perfect condition.
Mr. C.S Pandey added that Himalayan Run & Trek International annual event has been started since 1991 and since that time Mr. C. S. Pandey is the Race Director of the events.
