Naked lakeshore runners, pedal boats and zero sleep: The Nissan Czech Adventure Race 2025 had it all
Press Release / 01.09.2025

With its 22nd edition, the Czech Adventure Race ranks amongst the longest-running adventure races in Europe. The toughest nonstop race in the Czech Republic once again delivered countless stories, unforgettable moments, and hours of nail-biting tension for fans following the online trackers.
The Nissan Czech Adventure Race 2025 kicked off on Thursday, August 20, at 10 a.m., opening with a swim-run orienteering stage with shortcuts across a local pond. Fifteen teams lined up at the start: seven Czech and eight international, including three from Denmark.
Some teams showed up with swimming aids, making for a hilarious sight as athletes sprinted across the fields nearby with inflatable mattresses under their arms.
Teams of all levels took part: from highly favored veterans to first-timers looking to gain valuable experience. (For example, some now know the hard way that packing your headlamps into transition boxes isn’t the brightest idea.)
To keep the race competitive for everyone, organizers set up three time limits. Slower teams were moved forward onto shortened routes, allowing them to rejoin the main race field and meet other teams again later on.
From the start, the Czech-Swiss team Untamed took control of the race. It was their fourth attempt at the Czech Adventure Race, but they had never finished before. This year, everything came together perfectly: they built an early 1–2 hour lead and managed to hold it all the way to the finish line.
They crossed the line after 49 hours and 40 minutes without a single minute of sleep.
Just two hours later, the Czech team LOKAL BLOK finished second in 51:35, despite sleeping only 13 minutes during the second night. This team also placed second last year.
The final checkpoint was placed on a floating platform in the middle of a pond, just a few meters from the shore. Racers could get there any way they wanted. Some swam, but many opted for pedal boats (most with broken rudders). Spectators had a blast cheering as the exhausted athletes zigzagged wildly across the water.
On Friday evening at 10 p.m., the accompanying 18-hour MINI Adventure Race kicked off. Designed as a shorter version of the main course, it still packed plenty of action: 115 km MTB, 10 km orienteering, bike park section, climbing & abseiling, 6 km canoeing, and a 35 km swim-trek.
This race often attracts teams not ready for the full expedition or those who lost a teammate in the main event. This year, two Czech national teams, Black Hill A and Black Hill B, joined the MINI race as a part of their training for the AR World Championship in Canada.
One MINI racer shared a particularly funny story: they left their bags with clothes at the paddle checkpoint, which also happened to be the first control for the swim-trek stage. When they couldn’t find their bags later, they had no choice but to run along the lakeshore naked, in broad daylight.
The weekend wrapped up with the traditional beer relay, the “final discipline” of the Czech Adventure Race. Eight teams lined up for the four-person relay, and this year, the organizers’ team claimed the win.
