The inaugural Raid International Eco Endurance Adventure took place in early August in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec. The three day race covered 225 kilometres of hiking, biking and paddling, with some rope work thrown in for good measure. In total, 19 teams of four competed in the race. Most were from Quebec, but Mexico was well represented with three teams. The race was won by Def Leppard (the team, not the band.) The local team, captained by Patrick Lussier, won the race with a time of 28hours, 43 minutes and eight seconds.
“It was one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever done,� says Def Leppard’s Brigitte Benoit. Of course, she may be a little biased: Benoit hails from the local town of Eastman. “The water sections were really challenging, and the views were breathtaking. Daniel (Poirier, the race director) prepared a great course with lots of surprises. It was a beautiful course.�
