Ian Adamson fell, got his foot stuck and ended up with a twisted knee. Teammate Danelle Ballangee also fell – but was lucky enough to land on her back pack. Not so lucky was Nerea Martinez of Spanish team Buff Salomon who fell so badly she had to be brought to hospital.
At the transition after the horse riding section, CP 38, the race was marred by the death of a horse used by one of the leading teams. It seems the horse died from a heart attack some time after their arrival. (During the ride there were 4 checking stations just to make sure the horses were not pushed too hard.)
Among other fast teams on the horse riding section were Spie and the Argentinean team AXN, who’s horses were covered with sweat from the long ride.
Today all the teams have used up their “rest time which put the “real rankings back in order. So the Finns in Nokia are 3rd with French teams Spie and Les Arcs Quechua chasing. Since Merrell Zanfel and Cross Sportswear had to put in their remaining 12 hrs+ “rest time they are now towards the back of the field together with the Argentinean teams and Ertips of France.
