It's come and it's gone, the competitors are spent and the organizers are wasted, but NARC was highly successful. 141 competitors from ten different countries survived the heat and the hills with a lot of discomfort and,... though it may take a week or a month before they say it out loud,...a lot of enjoyment too. There were bumps on the road..and on more than half a dozen individuals faces who inadvertently walked into wasps, hornets or bees territorial spaces.!! And then there was the lone landowner who took exception to the headlamps and loud voices passing by his house in the middle of the night and prevented a few competitors from reaching one of the water points....and the control that was on the other side of a 12 foot high deer farm fence..the organizers set it up coming from the east but any competitors coming from the west couldn't cross the fence.........and the visitor from Switzerland who fell on a rock a hundred metres short of the finish line, fracturing her arm. Her partner took her to the hospital in Kamloops, where, luckily, the injury turned out to be a severe bruise and not a break. The days were hot..into the low 30's..and the nights were chilly..down to 2 C.
The competitors have now gone home to savor their victories..or to lick their wounds. Club member Chris Koch and his partner Bart Jarmula were the overall winners. Congratulations to them and to all the other competitors and to the organizers as well. It was a lot of work but worth the effort.
