Tamarack Resort’s Longest Day

Tamarack Resort were the last team through Monday night’s canyoning stage, completing it in the dark, before beginning the climb onto the Glen Coe hills ... and it wasn’t until 22 hours later that they arrived at TA3. They came in 6 hours after the previous team, and race staff were pleased to see them as they were starting to be concerned. They needn’t have worried, the team were all fine, and in better shape than some who’d arrived earlier.

The team had not been lost or stopped to sleep, they’d just moved slowly across the hills, resolutely battling the conditions. Conditions the like of which they’d never experienced before. “We trained every rainy day at home,� said Nick Stover, “but we don’t have rain or hills like that for training. There must have been 60 mile an hour winds on the tops and we had be careful.�

“It was a fantastic course and scenery,� said Brad Acker, “it was just the weather which defeated us. We loved the ridge and the canyon was cool. Nothing in it was too big on it’s own, it wasn’t an awesome traverse, and there were no huge jumps, but all together it was a great course.�
