XPD Expedition
A Monster Course
Lysanne de Graaf / 21.02.2006

A tough call.
Little did Hobart know that they would be cleaned out of adhesive contact by midday! Teams have a total of 16 A3 maps as well as 2 full size commercial maps that cover the 650km they will cover by foot, bike, paddle and rope as they head back towards Hobart.
The volunteers also arrived today and during an extensive briefing were impressed by several interesting facts, maybe not so much to excite them but certainly to highlight how appreciated and essential they were going to be for a successful XPD.
Each team has a total of 11 boxes, totalling 473 boxes in total. During the race, each box will make 14 moves, making 6622 box moves. There will be 6 trucks and 2 vans out on the course to ensure the right boxes get to the right teams in the right place at the right time.
On top of this there are 90 kayaks that also need to be shuttled around. Each kayak weighs over 35kg (when dry and clean) and each vessel will be loaded and unloaded 12 times during the race. This means, for kayaks alone, a total of 35640kg will be lifted!!
