Injuries Start to Take Their Toll for Some

Lysanne de Graaf / 23.02.2006See All Event Posts Follow Event
Blisters have started to pose some big problems for some teams. They will try to patch them up for the rest of the race, the reality is that it is still early days for many competitors.

Even before embarking on the coast trek some race officials had reported overhearing several teams recounting a multitude of aches, pains and chaffing – it’s going to be a very, very long event for those with troubles already.

Many stiff bodies with bleary eyes wandered around Corinna by the Pieman River on Thursday afternoon, and the Pieman paddle leg left many teams with vividly sunburned ‘lobster legs’.

This has the potential to be quite debilitating for some competitors, especially as they will need to ride through some very rugged and heavy scrub before they can enjoy a shower and something of a recovery at Gowrie Park mid camp.

By noon at CP10, ten pairs of trail shoes had been collected as lost property . . . very puzzling as these would be commonly considered rather essential equipment.
