Coast to Coast Adventure Race
This year’s race: Coast to Coast 2006
Jacqueline Windh / 26.02.2006

The route at this stage is secret – all that the competitors know is that they will be going from the Caribbean coast, westward to the Pacific. The total length of 580 km is made up of six stages, broken down approximately as follows (percentages are by time, not by distance):
15% sea kayaking
40% mountain bike
45% trekking.
Racers will not know the full route when they start. Rather, each section is revealed to them as they arrive at the transition point. For that reason, I am not able to publish an outline of the race now – but I will post a description of each stage as the leading team arrives at each transition point.
Race Director Mike Lapcevic says that, compared to last year (when racers had to climb 3300 m Turialba Volcano), this year’s route is much lower but longer. The highest altitude that they will reach is just over 1000 m.
The race starts at 9:00 am on February 28, and competitors have six days – until midnight March 5, to finish. Winning teams could finish as quickly as the evening of March 3.
