The land teams had an equally large challenge, with four long hill runs including the ascent of Clisham and a 60km mountain bike time trial, via Plocrapol, Tarbert and the much admired and abused Rhenigidale loop.
They also had the added complication of two hill checkpoints which could be ‘collected on any active leg’; most teams opted to take these in during the mountain bike and sacrifice their time trial time, Tim Lenton in the pairs category chose to run Uiseabhal from the road below during his road bike to Scalpay hall, completing the up-and-down in just over 20 minutes!
