The Rat Race MANCHESTER Urban X Adventure Race
A Close Shave on the Prologue
Rob Howard / 05.08.2006

As the razor was swept back and forth across the scalps of those who were first into the barbers chair they had to decide whether to have a No.2 for 25 points, a No.1 for 50 points ... or go all out had have the clippers set to 0 for a ‘bonehead’ and 100 points (which was 20% of the total points on offer all night). There was such a queue race \'special agent\' Craig Zeilinski set too with the clippers as well. He was the man who planned much of the prologue and thought up the ‘close shave’ idea.
Only one team member had to go into the chair and it wasn’t surprising some teams decided to give that checkpoint a miss. Some went in with flowing locks and came out looking very different, others got off more easily as they came out looking much the same as when they went in! David Proctor of Team D.E.S. Troyers thought he’d got away with it, but his team mate pulled out of the queue and he had to step in and lost his full head of hair. So did Colin Williams of Team 5. “All night I was running past glass fronted shops, he said, “and I couldn’t believe the reflection I was seeing!
The ladies teams were naturally not so keen to have their heads shaved, and none of the female competitors sat in the barbers chair - not surprisingly!
