Youth Race added to Race & Roll Challenge 4

On August 12, 2006 the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA on Lake Allatoona will host the 2nd Annual Rack & Roll Challenge 4 Adventure Race. This years race will began at 1600 and racing will conclude at 2100. Racers will be challenged by trail running, navigation, mountain biking, canoeing and ropes sections. If this was not enough Mystery Events will be scattered throughout the course to continually challenge the participants. This course is designed to be completed in 4 to 5 hours but as this is a Rogaine style event every team is racing until the end. Race Director Bramblett has set a course in the rolling hills of North Georgia for the running and biking sections with Lake Allatoona added for the paddling section, but don’t forget a Mystery Event could show up anywhere. At post time there are 29 teams registered for the Twilight race ranging from novice to veteran, soloist to co-ed team.

This year race director Toby Bramblett is bringing back the Youth Adventure Race. At 0900 youth teams comprised of racers 10-17 years old accompanied by an adult racer will begin a 2 hour race. Events will be patterned after real adventure race disciplines but suited for the up and coming racer. By August 11, 2006 7 teams had registered for the race. One of the teams will be well known to racers in the Southeastern United States, Team Mighty Dog. Alex Whitworth will be captaining a team of his father Chip Whitworth and Ardie Olson. Chip and Ardie recently competed in the Primal Quest Utah. We might have an Adventure Racing family dynasty starting with Chip and Alex.

In between the two races from 1200 to 1430 the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA has slated several great events and some good food. Times overlap for the events: from 1200 to 1400 is the cookout with proceeds going to Partners with Youth, 1200 to 1600 live music at the venue, 1200 to 1300 a paddle or mountain bike seminar, 1300 to 1500 moonwalk, 1315 to 1415 a climbing or orienteering seminar.

After the Twilight race is finished the awards ceremony will be held at 2200 and we’ll be done until the City of Woodstock Goldrush 24 AR on March 2-3, 2007.
