Adventure Racing World Championship 2006
Team Finland Reach the Atlantic Coast

The transition is set up in another camping ground, between the runway for the town of Sannesjoen and the sea. These camps are purpose made transitions, with cabins for teams and staff to rest in, food provided by the owners, plenty of parking space, and scenic locations.
Now the sun is out the views of the surrounding mountain ranges from this transition are stunning, but it is the towering peaks of the Seven Sisters which dominate the skyline. They are a series of complex peaks, shaped by fine ridges, deep basins, sheer cliffs, and on their flanks there are large areas of weather-smoothed granite, which is catching and reflecting the sunlight.
Team Finland walked purposefully into camp after their 12 hour crossing of the range to find their gear boxes spread out on the grass in the sun. The first task for Ville Niemela was to air and dry his white and wrinkled feet while he studied the route book and Anu Kopra found some food. Petri Forsman looked the most tired of all, and he struggled to release the butterfly nuts holding one of the boxes shut.
Niemela, who has a Superman tattoo on his bicep, said his feet were fine, but that the trek had been very hard as they started at night. “We chose to go over the summits, he said, “as we did not want to be on steep ground and I think it was the right choice.
