Spain\'s Superhuman Athletes Power Ahead
Jacqueline Windh / 15.11.2006

The core of team SOLE (the current leaders) is formed by partners Paul Romero and Karen Lundgren. For the Colombian race, they borrowed Dart-nuun\'s Cyril Jay-Rayon, who is racing against them now in Brazil on his own team (currently in 4th place).
What makes this contest so interesting is that for EcoMotion they have been joined by Aurelio Antonio Olivar … who raced with Abarth-Teva in Colombia. They\'ve also got Canadian Tom Zidek alongside.
So who is this Aurelio guy anyway? He is fairly new to adventure racing, but he has a good solid background in competitive running (his half-marathon best time is 1:06). This is his first expedition-length AR race but he\'s well known in Spain from a \'reality\' TV show.
The show was a quest to identify Spain\'s \"super-human\". Not \"superman\" because they actually had two parallel competitions, to find both Spain\'s \"superhuman\" male and \"superhuman\" female. Aurelio was asked to enter.
Each episode of the series entailed a test, to measure the candidate\'s abilities in the fields of things like physical strength, intelligence, or emotional control. For example, one of those tests involved a pair of candidates being suspended above a tall building, leaning out over the ground. The goal was to control your own heartbeat: manage your own fear. Whichever candidate reached a total of 200 heartbeats first would be dropped over the precipice (on a bungy).
Well, you may have guessed ... Aurelio won the competition. Aurelio Antonio Olivar is Spain\'s \"superhuman man.\"
